Featuring a Shyamalan-level twist concerning one of the longest-running jokes on the Drunkcast. We love y'all, enjoy!

Lots of love,

Julie, Allison, and Janine

Jan 30, 2019

Hey y'all,

Greetings from the other side of our last (mostly) sober 'cast, for now anyway. We assume you're eager to hear our thoughts on a certain development, so the preamble ends here.

Well, actually, it ends after this: Please join us this Saturday (2/2) at The Oasis (6809 N Sheridan Road, Chicago) at 12 p.m. for our annual season wrap-up live show. It's our special bar and we can't wait to share its divey pleasures with you.

Lots of love,

Julie, Allison, and Janine

Jan 24, 2019

Hey y'all,

Give or take one Adagio for Strings, this one was a winner—particularly when one biscuit-loving Scot was on screen. Yes, Roger. You can have all the biscuits, ye ehjdiot.

We also rhapsodize about the costumes, go on several extremely slap-happy tangents, and announce our season wrap-up LIVE SHOW, at the Oasis (6809 N Sheridan Rd) in Chicago. Show starts at noon. It is, alas, 21+, unless you're a tiny baby brought in by an adult parent. We're really excited about this. The O is our Cheers.

Lots of love,

Three ehjdiots (Julie, Allison, and Janine)

Hey y'all,
We sat ourselves down, did some nice, refreshing face masks, and watched the fine folks of Outlander lay the groundwork for the rest of the season. Our skin is supple, and our minds were sharp.
Why sharp?

Because this is Podlander Sobercast: an Outlander Podcast.

Fear not, we'll be back on the sauce soon, but this is the only episode we've ever done for which all three of us were stone-cold sober. Oh my god, what if we weren't funny?

Lots of love,
Julie, Allison, and Janine
Jan 3, 2019
But what about the bunnies, we ask? What about the bunnies?

We had a lot of fun with this one, y'all, but we must warn you that Allison made cocktails without measuring. Because a) they were delicious and b) they were secretly strong but whoops no measuring, she got us all pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty drunk.
So, it's sloppy, is what we're saying. Listen on for our thoughts on the week's clear winner of the Platinum Pamplemousse, some chat about poor old Roger and certain narrative misunderstandings, the parts of last week's episode that we missed, and more.

Happy New Year! Y'all are the best, and we couldn't do it without you.

Lots of love,
Julie, Allison, and Janine

PS - We die in a fire?!
Dec 25, 2018
Hey y'all,
We tried, we really did, to get you a full episode before the holidays. As you will hear in the following 27 minutes, our efforts were in vain. We'll be doing an xtreme xtra xlong xpisode next week, encompassing about half of "Wilmington" and all of whatever comes next, but for now, here are your favorite drunks, trying and failing to record from three different locations, one of which is roller coaster adjacent.
Lots of love,
Julie, Allison, and Janine
Dec 19, 2018
Hey gang,

It's the last 'cast we're recording in the same space before the holiday break, so we dug into a box of the wonderful Kate Kulzick's Christmas cookies and enjoyed the hell out of ourselves. Listen on for our thoughts on Sophie Skelton's evolving American accent, the return of a certain expert jactor, and looooads of #intheboooooks.

We'll be back next week!

Lots of love,
Julie, Allison, and Janine

Coinface returns!

What else do you want? Allison and Julie, sadly sans Janine once more, love love love them some Coinface. Sure, there are some mixed feelings about the outerwear choices of Master Willie Leechington-Bangs, and we both groaned out load at a certain line of dialogue, but David Berry and Duncan Lacroix had a scene together, so how much can we really complain?

Lots of love,
Julie, Allison, and Janine
Dec 5, 2018

Some good stuff here, in our humble opinion! Solid #intheboooooks talk, a lovely little side tangent about how some dudes just can't put the fuckin' toilet paper on the holder, a part where the batteries on the recorder die and we have to stop and buy new ones, lots of Sofie, you get the idea. But yeah yeah who cares because....

[REDACTED]!

We don't want to spoil it for you, but we are very excited about a certain head of silver hair (seriously, it's a great wig) and the fabulous acting happening on and around that head. And the rest of the episode? Pretty great, too.

Lots of love,

Julie, Allison, and Janine

Nov 28, 2018

Okay, y'all. Have fun. Bonus: Listen for when Sofie has a nightmare while we're recording and Julie has to go wake her up. It was distressing, but not as distressing as some other things.

Lots of love,

Allison, Julie, and Janine

Nov 22, 2018

Happy Thanksgiving, nerds!

Listen on for our thoughts on Roger's heel turn, Sophie Skelton's much-improved accent, Claire's thing for skulls, the footwear choices of ghosts, and loads of in-the-boooooooks.

Have a great holiday, we'll be back with the next episode (already in the can!) before you know it.

Nov 16, 2018

Fill your mugs and drink deep, friends, because this is a rough one.

Julie and Allison were on their own this week, but even without Janine's gentle guidance/reminders to stay on task, we'd have had some trouble. That was an upsetting hour with a few great performances and one blessed, very silly skunk attack.

Not sure what else to say, really. If we end up talking out of our asses, please call us on it—especially if you're a POC. Allison's on Twitter, Julie's on Facebook, and you can reach us both here.

Lots of love,

Julie, Allison, and Janine

NOTE: Now the correct audio file. Thanks to everyone who let us know about the error!

It's back!

This is a bit of an odd episode, because we did the last bit at Rogers Park Social, where we watched the premiere live with a bunch of you (Hi all! Thanks for coming.) But in many respects, it's business as usual. Nicknames. Swearing. A very good dog. (That part's new.)

We've got a backlog of episodes to release—life got crazy, in good ways and bad, for all of us—so please forgive us if all of a sudden we're talking about stuff that happened in June. This, though, is in very good time.

Our new release schedule, if that's your bag, is as follows:

Patreon - Monday

Everywhere else - Wednesday

Bonus/Backlog - Kinda random times?

More to come soon!

Love,

Julie, Allison, and Janine

In March, we played a weird game. It happened to be in a room full of people at one of the best conventions in the world. This is what happened. Enjoy.

Allison, Julie, and Janine

Jun 4, 2018

So this is an odd one, friends.

The first half: us tracking down and reacting to the teaser for the fourth season of Outlander.

The second half: a "spoiler section" that quickly devolves into a conversation about DNA and then about tampons. You can skip ahead to 28:30 if you don't want to hear spoilers (well, there are still some very mild ones) but do want to hear us jaw for half an hour.

Important note: this was recorded before news broke that the Golden State Killer may have been identified thanks to DNA/Ancestry websites.

Lots of love,

Allison, Julie, and Janine

It's here! It's Dudelander!

For those new to the fun and games, our seasonal Dudelander episodes feature Neal (Julie's husband) and Kevin (Allison's arch-enemy who is actually just her friend), two gentlemen who watch Outlander with varying degrees of enthusiasm. Usually, they're pleasantly surprised by some things and not by others; this time around, we're all pretty frustrated so the vibe is different.

They're funny, and we got them wasted, and also we recorded this on NEW YEARS EVE, so don't be confused when we start singing Auld Lang Syne.

Working through this backlog. We love you.

Kisses and Cherry Bounce,

Allison, Julie, and Janine

Apr 11, 2018

For this episode, we were live. We did it live. Live at Empirical Brewery, we gave out our traditional end of season awards, and we did so live and in person. Live. It was in December. We're catching up on the backlog, we promise. So... happy holidays?

We also got to see so many of you! It was wonderful. We especially want to thank Megan and Tori, who brought waffles as per tradition, the wonderful Wisconsin contingent — and in particular Chantel, who brought us hats she knitted which are so warm and comfy, everyone who brought  friends with them, and Jennlander Drunklynn, who came in from California (for reasons besides us, but still). It made us so happy and we were so touched.

Here we go! Love to you all.

Lots of smooches,

Allison, Julie, and Janine

Apr 3, 2018

Hey y'all,

We got busy in weird, stressful ways, but we're back! We promise. Contained herein you'll find information about our live show at C2E2 this weekend, our thoughts on Tobias Menzies' new gig, where the hell we've been since December, some jokes about our collapsing emotional states, and all kinds of other stuff. We'll be back NEXT WEEK with new episodes and we promise not to disappear again.

Lots of love,

Allison, Julie and Janine

We did not like when. You've been warned.

Seriously, we know a lot of you listen to the show because we're enthusiastic, but enthusiasm isn't always warranted. Don't worry, there are still plenty of positives — we love Coinface always forever — but we were not super pleased with this one.

If you're looking for a warm, fuzzy finale lovefest, join us Sunday LIVE at Empirical Brewery in Chicago!

Thanks to all of you for your support. Means the world, honestly.

Lots of love and quite a few Hamilton references,

Allison, Julie, and Janine

Dec 14, 2017

Hey, please read this note.

Julie and I (Allison) screwed up. This is a funny episode, we think — god, we hope so — and we had not one but TWO amazing guests, and we got to talk about Lotte Verbeek a lot, so, win. But we were vaguely dissatisfied with the show's handling of slavery, and talked about it as such, wrapped the episode, and went home happy. Then we woke up the next morning, thought about it some more, and realized that yeah, we screwed up.

The thing about white privilege is that it's based on the idea that white people are always centered in the narrative, and you can be "woke" and still be totally ignorant of the constant, insidious ways that society and culture sideline people of color in favor of whiteness, even in stories about people of color. So we sat our white asses down, accepted that somehow this story was about how Claire felt about buying a slave, thought for about five minutes afterward, and totally failed you all  — both of us as people failed, and I in particular as a critic failed. And so I'll say quickly here what we ignorantly and damagingly didn't say then: Outlander failed, too, and they failed hard.

No modifications to this episode, no additions. Just two white women who think they've got it figured out proving how far they have to go.

We're sorry. If you're a person of color, we're especially sorry. If you have any thoughts you want to share — about the show, about our handling of it, about anything – please send them to podlanderdrunkcast@gmail.com, or reach out on Twitter, or whatever you like. If you want to come on the show, we'll shut our foolish mouths and let you speak. And if we lose you here, well, we can't blame you.

So here it is, and a special thanks to guests Ruth McCormack and Catie Kirschner, as well as to Helena, who came to visit us just beforehand, and to Molly Mullen, who provided some truly delicious Colorado beers.

And last, here are some great pieces of writing from women who didn't totally fuck this one up:

Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya at The AV Club

Jonita Davis at Black Girl Nerds

Kayti Burke at Den of Geeks

If you know of others, please share them below. We'll update this post and share on Twitter. And this post is and will remain public.

So, um.... enjoy the episode?

Love,

Allison, Julie, and Janine (and Catie and Ruth!)

Dec 1, 2017

Hi gang! We recorded a little late this week, but friend of the show Jen Moniz filled in for Allison and is brilliant, so there's an upside! Listen on for an unexpected impression and for Julie not firing Allison, because she's a bigger person than that.

Lots of love,

Allison, Julie, Janine - and Jen!

Nov 22, 2017

Special guest Kate Kulzick (The Televerse) joins us to talk about ship lingo, splat sounds, actual violinists, and poor dead Albie, who gets a solid nickname after many drafts. We aimed for 60 minutes, so naturally it's two hours long.

Happy Thanksgiving from Allison, Julie, and Janine, who are very sorry that you had to deal with Jamie being such a dick this week.

So this episode is kind of... the doldrums, no? Still, there's plenty to get excited about, including a killer performance from Gary Young as Yi Tien Cho, some world-class eye-rolling from Marsali, and a rash of Kebbie Lebbie-related humor. Oh, and one other thing: it's our 50th episode!

Stay tuned for more this week, specifically for Patreon subscribers.

We sing The Association, make do without Janine (we promise it sounds good even though Janine was on the lam this week and also he edited it so it's OK), and sing the praises of our very special guest, Keenan.

Oh, and we spend a lot of time talking about that little Jamie-lookin' motherfucker (who is very good and probably an extremely nice young lady.) If you like Keenan here, just wait — there's a bonus episode with her coming out later in the week for Patreon supporters at the $5 level and up. For everyone else, it'll be out after the Outlander season ends.
